Biography

Darrell has more than 20 years of product design experience. He is currently designing a variety of applications and advanced concepts for mobile, iPhone, and telematics. He has worked and delivered designs across a wide spectrum of domains, including system software, web applications and web sites, mobile devices, and has delivered solutions ranging from enterprise to consumer entertainment.

He began his user interface design career at Sun Microsystems in the Human Factors Engineering group, where he collaborated with Kevin Mullet and co-authored “Designing Visual Interfaces: Communication Oriented Techniques” 1995, SunSoft Press / Prentice Hall. He then worked for more than 4 1/2 years at Netscape, designing customer solutions for large-scale web applications. He later built and managed the DesignCenter group as a successful, profitable business in the Professional Services organization. While at Netscape, Darrell authored one of the first books on web design, “Designing Large Scale Web Sites: A Visual Design Methodology” 1995, John Wiley & Sons.



He was also an early member of myCFO, a wealth management financial services firm, where he established the design programs for all online and marketing materials. In the consumer space, he was Art Director at Napster and then Ruckus Network, a digital media service for the college student market.

Darrell holds a BFA and MFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has also taught design tutorials and presented lectures at MIT X Consortium Technical, Association for Computing Machinery Conference on Human Factors and Computing Conferences (SIGGCHI) ‘93 (Amsterdam), ‘94 (Boston), ’95 (Denver), Living Surfaces Conference sponsored by the American Center for Design, and was an invited participant of the American Institute for Graphic Arts Advance for Design Summit, an initiative redefining the Designers’ role in the merging of design and technology disciplines.
